Sara had been through a turbulent time throughout university, to transitioning to work life and finding herself without a job. However, she turned things around with her positivity. Read her inspirational story and how she overcame this negative time in her life.

“After graduating from university I had a clear idea where I want to be and what I want to accomplish in life. I felt pretty confident and I was convinced that soon I will get a job of my dreams. Unfortunately the reality was different. I discovered that few employers offers you the perfect job after completing your degree and your 2:1 doesn’t seem to mean much either. Nonetheless, I was determined and I wasn’t going to give up easily. I tried to gain as much experience as possible and in every spare minute I was looking for work. Finally, after a year and a half, I found my first full time position in a small firm as a Social Media Executive.”

“I always imagined my first job to be very prestigious and important. However, it wasn’t quite like that. I really enjoyed my role but working for someone else just didn’t seem enough for me. I needed something a bit more challenging and exciting. So, one day I decided to start my own business. I wanted to help businesses to showcase their products and services on social media. I wanted to help them achieve their goals and watch them succeed. It seemed so easy at that time!”

“I kept my full time job for a while and worked on my business during weekends and evenings. I was slowly growing the business and raising the profile along the way. I felt pretty secure and confident, however, one day everything changed. This feeling of stability completely vanished when I received the information that I was being made redundant. I knew I had to act fast and make my own business a success. I think that was a major moment in my career, because losing my job was like jumping into deep water and learning how to swim. I was determined and extremely motivated. I had to make it work.”

“Unfortunately running a business is not as easy as it may seem. I honestly had no idea what I was doing at first. I made mistakes but at the same time I loved every minute of it. It was quite scary at the beginning but every little success was making up for it. I think I was meant to start my own business and it was supposed to be tough. All the difficulties pushed me to work harder and reach out for my goals and dreams. I think there is no better way to success than being determined and keeping a positive mindset at all times. Being a business owner means being challenged every single day. You need to be persistent and be able to deal with all the problems that come your way. It’s certainly hard but at the same time it’s exciting, challenging and very rewarding.”

“What is the moral of the story? Never give up and always believe in yourself, no matter what. Things happen for a reason.”
